Do not let your past taint your soul

Isaiah 43: 18-19 « “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. »

Jeremiah 30: 17 « For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; no one seeks her.” »

2 Corinthians 5: 17 « Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. »

At some point in our lives, we've all experienced situations that have had a major impact on our personality and our way of thinking. These changes can be positive, in the sense that they enable us to grow and improve ourselves. But they can also be negative, bringing all kinds of bad feelings into our hearts that impact our relationships with others. These negative experiences often lead to defensive barriers being erected: some isolate themselves, others become cruel so as not to be preyed upon and thus take the place of their tormentors, some try to drown their pain in all sorts of addictions, etc. The Bible's clear message is to guard our hearts, and when they're broken, they can change us for better or for worse.

Proverbs 4 : 23 « Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.»

But how can we keep our hearts from being damaged by bad experiences without having to isolate ourselves?

1.      Forgive over and over again

Grudges are one of the greatest evils that undermine our mental stability and inner peace. The grudge-holder's heart harks back to the past and becomes its hostage. Time passes, but it doesn't move forward. It stays stuck in the past and you can't enjoy the present. Grudge, being a persistent feeling, can often lead to a desire for revenge. Indeed, we tend to believe that punishing the other will bring some consolation. But evil can never bring peace. Evil cannot beget good. We may be able to harm the other person through our actions, but our hearts will certainly be more affected.  

The remedy to this trap is forgiveness. By forgiving with all our heart, we can turn the page and concentrate on the present with a light heart, at peace with ourselves.

 

Matthew 6 : 14-15 « For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.»

 

2.      Seeing God in your neighbor

Whoever loves God, should be able to love others too; for we have all been created in God's image. So loving others is a demonstration of our love for God. And the power of this love will certainly drive us to always forgive like God does, to be good to others, whether they have hurt us or not.  In this way, resentment is replaced by a desire to help the other person grow, to improve as a person.

1 Corinthians 13 : 4-8 « Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. »

 

3.      Keep the fire of the Holy Spirit alive in your heart.

Being in constant communion with the Holy Spirit enables us to keep our hearts pure and produce the fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22). Moreover, the Holy Spirit, by being in communion with Him, helps us to see beyond the bad deed, to see the evil spirit that led the person to commit it, and to understand its purpose.

Matthew 16 : 23 « But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are [j]an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men. »

   

  

Ne laisse pas ton passé corrompre ton âme

Esaïe 43 :18-19 « Ne pensez plus aux événements passés, et ne considérez plus ce qui est ancien. Voici, je vais faire une chose nouvelle, sur le point d’arriver : Ne la connaîtrez-vous pas ? Je mettrai un chemin dans le désert, et des fleuves dans la solitude »

Jérémie 30 : 17 « Mais je te guérirai, je panserai tes plaies, dit l’Éternel. Car ils t’appellent la repoussée, cette Sion dont nul ne prend souci. »

2 Corinthiens 5 : 17 « Si quelqu’un est en Christ, il est une nouvelle créature. Les choses anciennes sont passées ; voici, toutes choses sont devenues nouvelles.»

Nous avons tous, à un moment de notre vie, vécu des situations qui nous ont marqué et ont entrainé des changements majeurs dans notre personnalité, dans notre manière de penser. Ces changements peuvent être positifs, dans le sens où ils nous permettent de grandir, de nous améliorer. Ils peuvent être négatifs et amener dans nos cœurs toutes sortes de mauvais sentiments qui impactent nos relations avec les autres. En général ces expériences négatives nous poussent à ériger des barrières de défense : certains s’isolent, d’autres deviennent cruels afin de ne plus être des proies et prennent, ainsi, la place de leurs bourreaux, certains essaient de noyer leur douleur dans toutes sortes d’addiction, etc…On comprend donc pourquoi la bible nous exhorte à garder notre cœur, car quand il est brisé, il peut nous changer pour le meilleur ou pour le pire.

Proverbes 4 : 23 « Garde ton cœur plus que toute autre chose,
Car de lui viennent les sources de la vie. »

Mais comment éviter que nos cœurs soient corrompus par les mauvaises expériences du passé sans avoir à s’isoler ?

1.      Pardonner, Pardonner encore et encore

La rancune est l’un des plus grands maux qui nuisent à notre stabilité mentale et à notre paix intérieure. Le cœur rancunier ressasse le passé, et en devient le prisonnier. Le temps passe, mais lui, il n’avance pas et reste coincé dans le passé et n’arrive pas à profiter du présent. Aussi, la rancune, étant un sentiment persistant, peut, souvent, conduire à des désirs de vengeance. En effet, nous avons tendance à croire que punir l’autre va apporter une certaine consolation. Mais le mal ne peut en aucun cas apporter la paix. Le mal ne peut pas engendrer le bien. Nous pourrions parvenir à causer du tort à l’autre en passant à l’acte, mais notre cœur en sortira, certainement, davantage affecté.   

Le remède à ce piège est le pardon. En pardonnant de tout son cœur, on arrive à tourner la page, à se concentrer sur le présent avec un cœur léger, en paix avec soi-même.  

Matthieu 6 : 14-15 « Si vous pardonnez aux hommes leurs offenses, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi ; mais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux hommes, votre Père ne vous pardonnera pas non plus vos offenses. »

 

2.      Voir Dieu dans les autres

Celui qui aime Dieu, devrait pourvoir aimer les autres aussi ; car nous avons tous été créés à l’image de Dieu. Donc, aimer les autres est une démonstration de notre amour envers Dieu. Et la puissance de cet amour va certainement nous pousser à pardonner en tout temps, à vouloir le bien pour les autres qu’ils nous aient fait du mal ou pas.  Ainsi, la rancune est remplacée par le désir d’aider l’autre à grandir, à s’améliorer en tant que personne.

1 Corinthiens 13 : 4-8 « L'amour est patient, il est plein de bonté; l'amour n'est pas envieux; l'amour ne se vante pas, il ne s'enfle pas d'orgueil, il ne fait rien de malhonnête, il ne cherche pas son intérêt, il ne s'irrite pas, il ne soupçonne pas le mal, il ne se réjouit pas de l'injustice, mais il se réjouit de la vérité; il pardonne tout, il croit tout, il espère tout, il supporte tout. L'amour ne meurt jamais. Les prophéties disparaîtront, les langues cesseront, la connaissance disparaîtra. »

 

3.      Garder le feu du Saint-Esprit allumé dans son cœur

Être en communion constante avec le Saint-Esprit nous permet de garder notre cœur pur et de produire les fruits de l’Esprit qui sont l’amour, la joie, la paix, la patience, la bonté, la bienveillance, la foi, la douceur, la maîtrise de soi. (Galates 5 : 22). Par ailleurs, le Saint-Esprit, en étant en communion avec Lui, nous permet de voir au-delà de la mauvaise action posée, de voir le mauvais esprit qui a poussé la personne à la commettre et d’en comprendre le but.

Matthieu 16 : 23 « Mais Jésus se retourna et dit à Pierre : « Arrière, Satan, tu es un piège pour moi, car tes pensées ne sont pas les pensées de Dieu, mais celles des hommes. »

   

Holy Spirit : The Comforter

John 14  : 26 « But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you »

John 16  : 13 « Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. »

Luke 4 : 18-19  «The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord..»

 

Today, we will be exploring one of the representations of the Holy Spirit mentioned four times in the New Testament: the Comforter.  As the Comforter, the Holy Spirit brings solutions to problems, light to darkness, and answers to questions. He removes doubt with truth and guides the lost. In short, he soothes troubled hearts. All bad situations inevitably produce one thing: a troubled heart. The Holy Spirit comforts this heart by providing the help it needs to resolve whatever is troubling it.  This help can take many forms.  Indeed, the Greek word used in Scripture to refer to the Holy Spirit as the Comforter is parakletos, which can also be translated as "comforter" , "consoler," "intercessor," and "advocate." In this sense, the Holy Spirit comforts us in many ways. Here are a few of those ways:

 

1.      He reveals the truth to us

1 Corinthians 2 : 12 « Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God»

When a troubled heart turns to God for peace, the Holy Spirit comes through revelations in God's Word to offer guidance. He guides that heart toward truth. In doing so, He dispels doubts, strengthens us, and reinforces our faith.

 

2.      He increases our capacities

1 Corinthians 2: 13 « Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual»

1 Corinthians 12 : 7 « But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal »

The Holy Spirit helps us accomplish our mission by filling our gaps, repairing our weaknesses, and providing us with what we need to overcome our limitations at every level: spiritual, intellectual, physical, psychological, and so on.

 

3.      He intercedes on our behalf

Romans 8: 26 « Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.»

Indeed, since the Holy Spirit can probe the hearts of men, He knows our desires and needs better than we do.  And, since He knows the things of God, He can express our desires to God better than we can, through speaking in tongues for example.

 

4.      He guides us

Acts 16 : 6-7 « Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.»

The Holy Spirit provides us with the necessary guidance and reveals God's will to us as we walk with Him. He does this especially when we enter a new season of life, so that we may fulfill God's will and not deviate from His plan. He brings us out of confusion.

Le Saint-Esprit : Consolateur

Jean 14 : 26  « Mais le consolateur, l'Esprit-Saint, que le Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera toutes choses, et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit. »

Jean 16 : 13  « Quand le consolateur sera venu, l’Esprit de vérité, il vous conduira dans toute la vérité ; car il ne parlera pas de lui-même, mais il dira tout ce qu’il aura entendu, et il vous annoncera les choses à venir »

Luc 4 : 18-19  « L’Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi, Parce qu’il m’a oint pour annoncer une bonne nouvelle aux pauvres ; Il m’a envoyé pour guérir ceux qui ont le cœur brisé, Pour proclamer aux captifs la délivrance, Et aux aveugles le recouvrement de la vue, Pour renvoyer libres les opprimés, Pour publier une année de grâce du Seigneur.»

 

Aujourd’hui, nous allons explorer une des représentations du Saint-Esprit qui est citée quatre (4)  fois dans le Nouveau Testament : l’Esprit Consolateur.  Dans son rôle de Consolateur, le Saint-Esprit est celui qui apporte une solution à un problème, la lumière dans les ténèbres, une réponse à une question, celui qui vient enlever le doute par la vérité, Celui qui oriente/guide ceux qui sont perdus…bref celui qui apaise le cœur troublé. Car toutes mauvaises situations produisent inévitablement une chose…un cœur troublé. Et le Saint-Esprit vient consoler ce cœur en y apportant l’aide nécessaire pour résoudre ce qui le trouble.  Cette aide peut prendre plusieurs formes.  En effet, le mot grec utilisé dans les écritures pour parler du Saint-Esprit en tant que consolateur est ‘Parekletos’ ; qui peut être aussi traduit par aide, défenseur, intercesseur et avocat (ref : https://www.bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Lexicon.show/ID/G3875/parakletos.htm)

En ce sens, le Saint-Esprit nous console de plusieurs manières. En voici quelques-unes :

1.      Il nous révèle la vérité

1 Corinthiens 2 : 12 « Or nous, nous n’avons pas reçu l’esprit du monde, mais l’Esprit qui vient de Dieu, afin que nous connaissions les choses que Dieu nous a données par sa grâce »

Quand un cœur est troublé par les mensonges du diable et qu’il se tourne vers Dieu pour l’apaiser, le Saint-Esprit vient faire cela par des révélations à travers la parole de Dieu. Il vient guider ce cœur vers la vérité. Et, ainsi, Il dissipe/enlève les doutes, nous fortifie et renforce notre foi.  

 

2.      Il augmente nos capacités

1 Corinthiens 2 : 13 « Et nous en parlons, non avec des discours qu’enseigne la sagesse humaine, mais avec ceux qu’enseigne l’Esprit, employant un langage spirituel pour les choses spirituelles »

1 Corinthiens 12 : 7 « Or, à chacun la manifestation de l’Esprit est donnée pour l’utilité commune »

Le Saint-Esprit est celui qui nous aide à accomplir notre mission en comblant nos lacunes, réparant nos faiblesses, en nous donnant ce qu’il faut pour dépasser nos limites à tous les niveaux : spirituel, intellectuel, physique, psychologique, etc.

 

3.      Il intercède en notre faveur

Romains 8: 26 « De même aussi l’Esprit nous aide dans notre faiblesse, car nous ne savons pas ce qu’il convient de demander dans nos prières. Mais l’Esprit lui-même intercède par des soupirs inexprimables. »

En effet, le Saint-Esprit pouvant sonder le cœur des hommes, connait nos désirs et sait ce dont nous avons besoin mieux que nous. Et, étant donné que c’est Lui connait les choses de Dieu (Car, Il est l’Esprit de Dieu), il a la capacité de mieux exprimer ces désirs à Dieu que nous, par le parler en langues par exemple

4.      Il nous guide

Actes 16 : 6-7 « Ayant été empêchés par le Saint-Esprit d’annoncer la parole dans l’Asie, ils traversèrent la Phrygie et le pays de Galatie.  Arrivés près de la Mysie, ils se disposaient à entrer en Bithynie ; mais l’Esprit de Jésus ne le leur permit pas. »

Le Saint-Esprit est celui qui nous transmet les instructions nécessaires, Il nous révèle la pensée de Dieu tout au long de notre marche avec Dieu, et particulièrement, quand nous entrons dans une nouvelle saison dans nos vies afin d’accomplir la volonté de Dieu et de ne pas dévier de Son plan. C’est Lui qui nous sort de la confusion.

 

Restons connectés avec le Saint-Esprit !!!!!

The Intercessor

 Ezekiel  22 : 30 « I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. 31 So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. »

Exodus 32 : 30-32 « The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”  So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written. »

John 15 : 16  « You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.»

 

The above verses make it clear that the intercessor is the one who pleads on behalf of people before God. He is like a spiritual lobbyist.  The intercessor has a great spiritual responsibility in his family, his community, his country, his church, and the world, where he plays a "watchdog" role by constantly praying for specific causes.  Wherever he is, the intercessor plays a very important rôle

 

1.      The Body of Christ, the Church

Hebrews 7 : 25 « Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. »

The above verse confirms that the eternal salvation of the souls of all members of the Church depends on constant intercession with God. For the Church, being made up of human beings, cannot maintain its perfect stature before God to merit and preserve salvation on its own.   This can only be the fruit of the grace given to us through Jesus. Therefore, Jesus is the church's first and perfect intercessor before God; He is already with the Father and is righteous and without sin. The Bible, moreover, presents Jesus as the eternal priest, living forever, with an eternal and inalienable priesthood, through which He fulfills for the Church the same role that the ancient priests did for the people of God at the time of the Old Covenant.

But we on earth, as intercessors, must also understand that we have a role to play in speeding up the revival around the world by interceding for the strengthening and protection of the shepherds already established, and for God to raise up more men and women who will actively work for this revival. Didn't Simeon and Anna intercede for the coming of the Messiah, even though it had been prophesied centuries before? (Luke 2:25-38)

 

Ephesians 6 : 18 « And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. » 

 

2.      As a member of the local church

James 5  : 14-16  « Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.»

The intercessor plays the role of a watchman within the local church by his constant prayers to thwart attacks against the church that aim to destroy it through scandals, disputes, spiritual discouragement, jealousy, lack of love and charity among members, greed, etc. ... The role of the intercessor is therefore to remain vigilant, attentive to the instructions of the Holy Spirit, and to pray specifically for the protection and growth of the local church, for the protection of the members on all levels (health, spiritual, financial, social, etc.), and for the unity, sanctification and strengthening of the shepherds who are established there.

 

3.      In the family

Genesis  24 : 13-15  « See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.” Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.»

The intercessor is the one who stands in the gap spiritually for his family and has their collective success at heart. He is like a shepherd for each member, providing "spiritual cover" through his prayers for the salvation of their souls, for their protection in the face of spiritual battles, for their deliverance from diabolical bonds and other curses, for the success of their projects, and for their prosperity.

 

4.      In the community, the country and the world

Isaiah 62 : 6-7 « I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.»

 

Jeremiah 29 :7 « Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. »

An intercessor cannot live in isolation and be insensitive to the problems of his country, his community, and the world in general. As mentioned above, the intercessor is concerned with collective success and happiness. Therefore, he must be involved in his environment and influence it. Jesus told us in Matthew 5:13-14 that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, and that we should not be hidden. So we should be able to influence the society in which we live, change people's hearts, improve things, make a difference, contribute to the collective well-being spiritually through our constant intercessory prayers, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit who will guide us regarding the subjects of prayer (the problems for which we should intercede), how we should be praying, etc. Isn't the prayer of the righteous very effective according to the Bible?

 

1 Timothy  2 : 2 « for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. »

 

The intercessor who is to play the role of a watchful man wherever he is, must necessarily have the burden of souls, a heart without jealousy and resentment...a heart pleasing to God.

 

 

Le rôle de l’intercesseur

 Ezéchiel 22 : 30 « Je cherche parmi eux un homme qui élève un mur, qui se tienne à la brèche devant moi en faveur du pays, afin que je ne le détruise pas ; mais je n’en trouve point »

Exode 32 : 30-32 « Le lendemain, Moïse dit au peuple : Vous avez commis un grand péché. Je vais maintenant monter vers l’Éternel : j’obtiendrai peut-être le pardon de votre péché. Moïse retourna vers l’Éternel et dit : Ah ! ce peuple a commis un grand péché. Ils se sont fait un dieu d’or. Pardonne maintenant leur péché ! Sinon, efface-moi de ton livre que tu as écrit. »

Jean 15 : 16  « Ce n’est pas vous qui m’avez choisi ; mais moi, je vous ai choisis, et je vous ai établis, afin que vous alliez, et que vous portiez du fruit, et que votre fruit demeure, afin que ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon nom, il vous le donne.»

 

Les versets ci-dessus cités nous font comprendre, de manière simple, que l’intercesseur est celui qui plaide en faveur des hommes, devant Dieu. Il est comme un lobbyiste spirituel.  L’intercesseur a une grande responsabilité spirituelle dans sa famille, sa communauté, son pays, son église et le monde, où il joue un rôle de « garde-fou » par des prières pour des causes précises et de de manière constante.  Partout où il se trouve, l’intercesseur joue un rôle très important.

 

1.      Dans l’Église, Corps du Christ

Hébreux 7 : 25 « C’est aussi pour cela qu’il peut sauver parfaitement ceux qui s’approchent de Dieu par lui, étant toujours vivant pour intercéder en leur faveur. »

Le verset ci-dessus nous confirme que le salut éternel des âmes de tous les membres de l’Église dépend d’une intercession constante auprès de Dieu. Car l’Église, étant faite d’hommes, ne peut pas garder sa stature parfaite devant Dieu pour mériter et préserver le salut par elle-même.   Cela ne peut être que le fruit de la grâce qui nous est donnée à travers Jésus. Ainsi, Jésus est le premier et le parfait intercesseur pour l’Église auprès de Dieu ; étant déjà auprès du Père et étant Juste et sans défaut. La bible, d’ailleurs, nous présente Jésus comme le dernier Sacrificateur qui, vivant éternellement, a un sacerdoce éternel et non transmissible, par lequel Il remplit, pour l’Église, le même rôle que les anciens sacrificateurs pour le peuple de Dieu au temps de l’Ancienne Alliance.

Mais nous aussi, sur terre, en tant qu’intercesseurs, nous devons comprendre que nous avons également un rôle à jouer pour accélérer le réveil partout dans le monde en intercédant pour la fortification et la protection des bergers déjà établis et pour que Dieu suscite davantage d’hommes et de femmes qui vont travailler activement pour ce réveil. Siméon et Anna n’ont-ils pas intercéder pour la venue du Messie, même quand cela avait été prophétisé depuis plusieurs siècles ? (Luc 2 : 25-38)

 

Éphésiens 6 : 18 « Faites en tout temps par l’Esprit toutes sortes de prières et de supplications. Veillez à cela avec une entière persévérance, et priez pour tous les saints » 

 

2.      Dans son église locale

Jacques 5  : 14-16  « Quelqu’un parmi vous est-il malade ? Qu’il appelle les anciens de l’Église, et que les anciens prient pour lui, en l’oignant d’huile au nom du Seigneur ; la prière de la foi sauvera le malade, et le Seigneur le relèvera ; et s’il a commis des péchés, il lui sera pardonné. Confessez donc vos péchés les uns aux autres, et priez les uns pour les autres, afin que vous soyez guéris. La prière agissante du juste a une grande efficacité. »

L’intercesseur joue le rôle d’un homme vigile au sein de l’église locale par ses prières constantes visant à déjouer les attaques contre l’église qui visent à la détruire par les scandales, la zizanie, le découragement spirituel, la jalousie, le manque d’amour et de charité parmi les membres, la cupidité etc… Le rôle de l’intercesseur est donc de demeurer vigilent, attentif aux instructions du Saint-Esprit afin de faire des prières ciblées pour la protection et la croissance de l’église locale, la protection à tous les niveaux pour les membres (santé, spirituel, financier, social, etc…) ainsi que pour l’unité, la sanctification et la fortification des bergers qui y sont établis.

 

3.      Dans sa famille

Genèse  24 : 13-15  « Et il dit : Éternel, Dieu de mon seigneur Abraham, fais-moi, je te prie, rencontrer aujourd’hui ce que je désire, et use de bonté envers mon seigneur Abraham !  Voici, je me tiens près de la source d’eau, et les filles des gens de la ville vont sortir pour puiser l’eau. Que la jeune fille à laquelle je dirai : Penche ta cruche, je te prie, pour que je boive, et qui répondra : Bois, et je donnerai aussi à boire à tes chameaux, soit celle que tu as destinée à ton serviteur Isaac ! Et par là je connaîtrai que tu uses de bonté envers mon seigneur. Il n’avait pas encore fini de parler que sortit, sa cruche sur l’épaule, Rebecca, née de Bethuel, fils de Milca, femme de Nachor, frère d’Abraham. »

L’intercesseur est celui qui se tient à la brèche spirituellement pour sa famille et qui a à cœur le succès collectif. Il est comme un berger pour chacun des membres en leur procurant une « couverture spirituelle » par ses prières pour le salut de leurs âmes, pour leur protection face aux combats spirituels, leur délivrance des liens diaboliques et autres malédictions, le succès dans leurs projets et leur prospérité.

 

4.      Dans sa communauté, son pays et le monde

Esaïe 62 : 6-7 « Sur tes murs, Jérusalem, j’ai placé des gardes ; Ils ne se tairont ni jour ni nuit. Vous qui la rappelez au souvenir de l’Éternel, Point de repos pour vous ! Et ne lui laissez aucun relâche, Jusqu’à ce qu’il rétablisse Jérusalem Et la rende glorieuse sur la terre. »

 

Jérémie 29 :7 « Recherchez le bien de la ville où je vous ai menés en captivité, et priez l'Éternel en sa faveur, parce que votre bonheur dépend du sien. »

Un intercesseur ne peut pas vivre de manière isolée et être insensible aux problèmes de son pays, de sa communauté t plus généralement, du monde. Comme nous l’avons dit dans les lignes ci-dessus, l’intercesseur a à cœur le succès et le bonheur collectif. Il doit donc s’impliquer dans son milieu et l’influencer. Jésus nous a dit, selon Matthieu 5 : 13-14, que nous sommes le sel de la terre et la lumière du monde et que nous ne devrions pas être cachés. Donc nous devrions être capable d’influencer la société dans laquelle nous vivons, changer le cœur des gens, améliorer les choses, faire la différence, contribuer au bien-être collectif spirituellement par nos prières d’intercession constantes, sous l’inspiration du Saint-Esprit qui va nous guider par rapport aux sujets de prière (les problèmes pour lesquels il faut intercéder), à la manière de prier, etc… La prière du juste n’est-elle pas d’une grande efficacité ?

1 Timothée 2 : 2 « J’exhorte donc, avant toutes choses, à faire des prières, des supplications, des requêtes, des actions de grâces, pour tous les hommes,

pour les rois et pour tous ceux qui sont élevés en dignité, afin que nous menions une vie paisible et tranquille, en toute piété et honnêteté. »

 

L’intercesseur devant jouer le rôle d’un homme vigile partout où il se trouve, doit nécessairement avoir le fardeau des âmes, l’amour pour les âmes, un cœur dénué de jalousie et de rancune…un cœur agréable à Dieu.  

KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS

Hebrews 12 : 2 « fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God»

Matthew 14 : 28-30 « “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”»

Isaiah 45 : 22 « Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.»

The stability of our faith in God depends on what we expose our minds to, for we believe in a God our eyes have not seen. We haven't had the great opportunity that the disciples had to be constantly with God through the divine dimension of Jesus.  So, our faith depends on what feeds our spirit. Is it nourished by the revelations of the Holy Spirit or by the things around us?  Whatever period we consider: Old Covenant or New Covenant, the Bible is replete with examples of destabilized faith; and consequently, of lives turned away from God's way as soon as people's minds turn away from God. The Bible insists in several verses on the need to keep our eyes fixed on God and on the consequences that befall us when we turn our eyes away from Him. These are perfectly illustrated in the Gospel of Matthew, which tells us the story of Peter, who nearly drowned the moment he took his eyes off Jesus and let the fear of the waves take over (Matthew 14:24-33). But what exactly do the verses quoted at the beginning of this text recommend? How can we keep our eyes fixed on God, whom we cannot physically see? We'll try to answer these questions in the following few lines.

The various ways in which this admonition is expressed in these verses provide a clear understanding of what we must do to avoid turning our eyes away from God.

1.      Be attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit in your life.

1 Corinthians 2 : 9-10 « However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”[b]— the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.»

The Holy Spirit has several important roles in the life of the believer: He teaches, He guides, He reveals the hidden things of God, He edifies. To be effective in all of these roles, mastery of the subject matter is indeed essential. But who masters the things of God but the Holy Spirit? (Psalm 32:8) The Holy Spirit fulfills all these roles by communicating with our minds in a variety of ways: through our conscience, that persistent thought that aligns with the Word of God, the inspiration of a Bible verse that edifies us, etc. But this teaching cannot be understood by a rebellious spirit, where unbelief, carnal things, and the teachings of this world reign. Our minds must be available to God, open to the Holy Spirit, and willing to learn. (1 Corinthians 2 : 14 « The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.»). In this context, we must maintain perfect intimacy with the Holy Spirit, to the point of discerning His voice among thousands of others, in order to keep our eyes fixed on God.

 

2.      Meditation on the word of God

Joshua 1 : 8 « Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.»

Meditating on God's Word is important to nourish our minds with His thoughts. His mind cannot be guessed. It must be revealed through meditation on the Word of God written in the Bible.  As we said in one of our articles, only light can dispel darkness. So the lies and false doctrines of this world that destabilize our faith and distance us from God can only be refuted with the Word of God. Only Light Can Give Light.  (Luke 24 : 45 « Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. »). Here, keeping our eyes on God means keeping His Word in our minds, constantly meditating on it to prevent the doctrines of this world from taking hold over and corrupting our minds.

 

3.      Spending time with God in prayer

James 4 : 8 « Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.»

How can we not lose sight of someone or something when it's not in our field of vision? In this case, it is about an invisible God who has given us the key to staying in His presence: through prayer.  Spending more time with God means spending less time satisfying the flesh and more time nourishing the spirit. In fact, the more time you spend with someone, the more you tend to share the same mindset, the same values, the same behavior. In our case, God's Spirit is superior to ours, so it is we who are influenced by God and tend toward a perfect imitation of Jesus. In God's presence, the world no longer has a hold on us because our minds are in total submission to God's. The flesh is silent, and the Spirit takes over. In this sense, keeping our eyes on God inevitably means spending time with Him in prayer. The more we distance ourselves from the world in prayer, the closer we come to God, and the less our thoughts can be influenced and disturbed by the things of this world.

Matthew 16: 24 « Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.»

Psalm 37: 4 « Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. »

Matthew 16: 26 « What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? »
